Group Computer CollaboratingThe University of South Carolina Beaufort offers a Bachelor of Science in Information Science & Technology with a Concentration in Cybersecurity. This program is designed to prepare students for technical careers in the field of cybersecurity by providing specialized courses in areas such as:

  • Information security
  • Digital forensics
  • Ethical hacking

The ISAT major with Cybersecurity concentration includes 15 credit hours of cybersecurity-specific topics.

In addition to these technical skills, the program also focuses on developing cutting-edge practices in problem solving, communication, and leadership skills, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped for careers in the growing digital culture and economy.

With a curriculum that encompasses the core requirements of the Information Science & Technology major, students in the cybersecurity concentration will gain technical knowledge in the design and integration of information technologies, as well as an understanding of the administrative and legal aspects of cybersecurity.

The curriculum is designed to align with the requirements set by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. National Security Agency, with the goal of USCB being officially designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense. As a primary academic partner in the newly-formed South Coast Cyber Center, USCB has received a share of a $1.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Defense Office of Economic Adjustment to achieve this goal.

Cybersecurity Professionals are In Demand

In 2022, there were 68 cybersecurity workers for every 100 open roles, according to new data from the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, trade group CompTIA and data firm Lightcast.

The two most in-demand roles are cybersecurity engineers and cybersecurity analysts.
