I am Swati Debroy. In 2007 and 2011 received my Masters and PhD, respectively, in mathematics from University of Florida, Gainesville, FL, USA. Prior to coming to the US, I received my BSc. with Honors in Mathematics in 2003 at St. Xavier’s College, University of Calcutta in Kolkata, India, followed by an MSc. in Pure Mathematics in 2005 from University of Burdwan in West Bengal, India.
I have been teaching at USCB since 2013 and am currently an associate professor of mathematics. I served as Program Coordinator for Mathematics at USCB from August 16, 2017 – July 15, 2018. I went on to serve as Director of General Education at USCB from August 16, 2019 – May 15th, 2021. I am currently associate professor of Mathematics since August, 2018. Before this, I was a lecturer at University of Missouri, Kansas City with the Dept. of Mathematics and Statistics from August 16, 2011 – May 15, 2013. Also taught at University of Florida, Dept. of Mathematics from August 15, 2005 – August 10, 2011, as a Graduate Teaching Assistant/Instructor.
My research interests lay at the intersection of mathematics and diseases. For my PhD dissertation, I studied mathematical models on treatment and related toxicities of within-host Hepatitis C infection which I continued to work on during my post-doctorate training at University of Illinois, Chicago with the Dept. of Medicine, Section of Hepatology, from May 16, 2012 – August 15, 2012, supervised by Dr. Harel Dahari and Dr. Scott Cotler.
After coming to USCB, I have started working on Childhood Obesity in the Lowcountry, working along with local schools to alleviate the burden in this area. Apart from that, I work on epidemiological aspects of spread and mitigation of Infectious Diseases, like leishmaniasis and COVID-19. In recent years, I am exploring statistical modeling and pharmacokinetic modeling using population-based approaches.
I am passionate about Undergraduate research and worked with several students on grant funded projects. My publication record can be accessed here.
