I am an Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Elementary Education Program in the Department of Education at the University of South Carolina Beaufort. My research focuses on the use of math manipulatives for teaching mathematical concepts to elementary and early childhood learners.

I received a BS in Elementary Education in 1984, and MEd in Elementary Education in 1992. I completed work on professional development in Administrative Leadership and Curriculum in 1999, all at Winthrop University, Rock Hill, S.C. I earned a PhD in Elementary Education at the University of South Carolina in 2014.

I launched my career in 1989 teaching third and fifth grades at the Belleview Elementary School in Rock Hill. In 1993, I moved to Finley Road Elementary School to teach fifth grade. In 2004, I journeyed to Salvador, Brazil, where I taught math and science at the Pan American School of Bahia. Returning to the U.S. in 2006, I became a Course Instructor and Supervisor of Internships I and II at the University of South Carolina. In 2010, I returned to Winthrop University as a Course Instructor and Supervisor. I joined the USCB faculty in 2015 as an Assistant Professor of Education.

I have presented at annual conferences of the Association of American Schools in South America in Brazil and Venezuela. In 2018, I presented my research at the Oxford Round Table in Oxford England.  I have also delivered scholarly presentations at local and national faculty meetings and conferences.

I earned a National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification in 2001 and recertification in 2011. I was the Finley Road School Teacher of the Year in 2001, and a Rock Hill Foundation Grants recipient in 2000 and 2003,

I am the faculty advisor to the Education Majors Club at USCB. The club provides an opportunity for pre-education majors to meet with Education department faculty, support personnel, and peers in a roundtable format each month.

I teach math for early childhood and elementary, elementary curriculum and assessment, and classroom management for early childhood and elementary. In addition, I supervise practicum students and interns in the professional program.
