I earned my doctorate (PhD) in Community Health from the Department of Kinesiology, Health,
and Sport Studies at Wayne State University (WSU) in Detroit, Michigan, in 2022. I also received
my master's and bachelor's in health care administration in 2016 and 2002 from Research and
Sciences University in Tehran, Iran, and Medical Sciences University in Esfahan, Iran. I obtained
my Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) from the National Commission for
Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) in 2021.

My research interest is grounded in health promotion, examining behavioral, cultural, and
environmental contributors to the onset of obesity, type II diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases
among minority populations. Immigrant and refugees' health and developing culturally tailored
lifestyle and behavioral interventions to influence the mechanisms that underlie motivation and
modifying risk factors are other foci of my research interests. I am a mixed-methods researcher,
and the dominant approach I am modeling my research after is community-based participatory
research. The community environment and the social-ecological model are two theoretical
frameworks upon which I have built my research projects.

From 2002 until 2016, I worked as a quality manager and health educator in a hospital in Iran.
Since accepting my current position as Assistant Professor of Public Health at USCB, I have taught
courses in health promotion and chronic disease risk reduction. Throughout my career and
graduate programs, I received funded research grants and contributed to professional publications
and national and international presentations. I recently completed a mixed methods research study
exploring the role of sugar-sweetened beverage marketing on the nutritional behaviors of young
immigrant children in Metro Detroit, Michigan. My current research examines healthy nutrition
behavior and obesity prevention, focusing on young children in the Lowcountry.
